Shalhoub, LaPaglia to star in “Lend Me a Tenor”

NEW YORK — Tony Shalhoub will co-star with Anthony LaPaglia in a Broadway revival of “Lend Me a Tenor,” Ken Ludwig’s screwball comedy about a missing opera star and the frantic attempt to cover up his absence. Producer Stuart Thompson says the comedy will open April 4 at the Music Box Theatre, with preview performances beginning March 11. It was first seen on Broadway in 1989.

Shalhoub recently completed his final season of the television series “Monk,” while LaPaglia starred in the canceled CBS drama “Without a Trace.”

Stewart talks of his song for anti-cancer campaign

LOS ANGELES — When Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame was called on to create a song for an anti-cancer campaign, he was surprised at how easily it came to him and with just the right tone.

“It’s very uplifting,” he says of “Stand Up to Cancer,” which he started writing and recording on his laptop in bed right after awakening one morning. “You don’t really hear the word sung out or spoken out loud a lot. Cancer, putting the word in a song, is a very powerful thing for people recovering from cancer or in treatment.”

Stewart did the song for the latest campaign by Stand Up to Cancer, which raises awareness of the disease and money to help speed research into new treatments.
