Remembering soldiers

LEAVITTSBURG — The employees at Liberty Tax Service, 2919 State Route 5, with help from the community, individuals and organizations, have collected more than 150 holiday cards to send to men and women in uniform overseas.

“Our hope is that this brings a little holiday cheer to our soldiers and helps to remind them that we are thinking of them back here at home,” said Jennifer Stocker, owner of Leavittsburg’s Liberty Tax Service.

Earlier this year, her office collected more than 1,500 cell phones for the Cell Phones for Soldiers program that provides calling cards to U.S. troops so they can call home.

Beginning Jan. 2, the office will begin collecting homemade Valentines for soldiers. Anyone interested in participating in that project is invited to e-mail Gail at libertytax44430@neo.rr.com or call Anthony at (330) 898-1130.

Leetonia water service

LEETONIA —The Leetonia Water Department will shut down water service at 9 a.m. Monday to install a water valve to tie in to the new 12-inch water-main line.

The waterline installation will feed the south side of town and allow for growth, village officials said in a news release.

The water shutoff will affect residents on Columbia Street east of Wilson Street, all of Wilson, East High, Home, Nold and Cherry streets and Cherry Fork Avenue.

The water will be off four to five hours to complete the work. Village officials said customers affected by the water shutdown will be under a boil order until further notice.

Residents will experience discolored water for a couple of days on the south side of town until the system settles. Residents also will experience low water pressure and volume until the system stabilizes, officials added.
