Hunter’s death probed

HARTFORD — A deer hunter died while out in the woods here about 3 p.m. Saturday, the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Department said. The hunter fell out of a tree stand, but no other details were available, a deputy said. Investigation of the death is being handled by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, but a dispatcher for the agency said no reports were available Saturday night.

Lottery site robbed

CORNERSBURG — A gunman took between $400 and $500 from the Cornersburg Shell Lottery Shack, 3520 Canfield Road, at 6 p.m. Friday, police said. A clerk reported that the man came up to the drive-through window on foot, pushed a duffel bag through the window opening and pointed a handgun at her. After the money was placed in the bag, he ran off, reports said.

Woman hurt in fight

YOUNGSTOWN — A 23-year-old Ohio Avenue woman was cut in the face and stabbed in the back in a fight with another woman about 10 p.m. Friday, police said. The victim told police she was at McBride Street and Woodcrest Avenue on the East Side to meet a friend when she was confronted by a 26-year-old woman whom she knew.

The two started fighting, and the 26-year-old pulled out a kitchen knife and attacked the younger woman, reports said. The victim said she would seek medical treatment on her own. Police went to the house of the 26-year-old and didn’t get any response.

South Side robbery

YOUNGSTOWN — An 18-year-old Struthers woman told police she was robbed of $16 at gunpoint at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Avenue and Plum Street on the South Side. She reported that she and a friend just stepped out of a car when a man walked up with a gun. He told them to get on the ground, but when the woman refused, the gunman hit her in the face with the gun, took her purse and ran off, reports said.

Home hit by bullets

YOUNGSTOWN — A 38-year-old Lincoln Park Drive woman told police she had no idea why someone fired numerous bullets into her East Side house. She said she was sitting in her dining room when bullets started hitting the house at 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Police said they saw several bullet holes in the house and found one bullet in the couch in the living room. They found 15 shell casings in the street.
