Submit information on New Year’s services

The Vindicator will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The list will run on Dec. 26.

The deadline to submit information is noon Dec. 23.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, time of services, your name and a phone number for verification.

Cathedral services

YOUNGSTOWN — Services at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., are scheduled on Christmas Eve at 4 p.m. celebrated by the Rev. John Keehner, cathedral rector; 6 p.m. celebrated by the Rev. Edward Brienz, associate pastor; and and midnight Mass, celebrated by Bishop George V. Murry. The prelude of carols will start at 11:30 p.m. with the Cathedral Choir directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya.

On Christmas Day, Mass at 10:30 a.m. will be celebrated by Father Keehner.

Confessions are scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Winter Bible school

CORNERSBURG — Solid Rock Interdenominational Church, 3507 Canfield Road, will have a winter vacation Bible school.

Sessions are planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for children 5 to 12 years old.

There are fees.

Blue Christmas service

CHAMPION — Otterbein United Methodist Church, 1128 State Road, will offer a Blue Christmas service at 3 p.m. Sunday.

This service acknowledges that sometimes joy is hard to find and grief may feel overwhelming in a season of family gatherings.

At Howland Community

HOWLAND — Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road, will present a live Nativity from 6 to 8 p.m. today with Mary, Joseph and animals at the stable.

The church also will have a Candle of Hope service at 4 p.m. Sunday that will focus on celebrating the hope of Christmas in uncertain times.

Blue Christmas service

LIBERTY — A Blue Christmas service of worship is planned at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Presbyterian Church, 1451 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

The reflective service in candelight will include Scripture, meditation and readings.

The service addresses the fact that some people face sorrow, grief and sense of loss at Christmas.

Christmas activities

MINERAL RIDGE — Mineral Ridge Church of Christ, 3911 Main St., plans caroling at 6 p.m. today. A family night Christmas program will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Children’s activity

HUBBARD — Coalburg United Methodist Church, 1906 Wick Campbell Road, will sponsor a winter vacation Bible school from 9:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 29 and 30. The program is free and open to children from 2 years old, who are potty trained, and older.

Live Nativity planned

AUSTINTOWN —Immaculate Heart of Mary, 4490 Norquest Blvd., will present a live Nativity from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

After Epiphany Masses at 5 p.m. Jan. 2 and at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Jan 3, the Magi (Three Kings) will sing and distribute gold coins (candy).
