Over $1,600 raised at charity games

On Thanksgiving Eve, Fitch Falcon Gymnasium was the site of the 2009 Federal League-Northeast Buckeye Conference OHSAA Foundation Basketball Games to benefit the OHSAA Foundation and the “Hoops 4 Healing” Foundation.

The games pitted the Louisville Leopards and the Fitch Falcon Boys and Girls varsity basketball teams. The event at Fitch, which was a collaborative effort between the Fitch National Honor Society, and the Fitch Athletic Department, raised over $1,600.00 for the two foundations.

NHS volunteers held a carnival prior to tip-off for the student body. Joe Carcelli and Roger Day handled the half-court shot during halftimes of the two games. All proceeds benefited the foundations.

Four teams participate in holiday tournament

The 2009 Holiday Basketball Tournament, hosted by Fitch High School, begins Dec. 28 with Boardman taking on Poland at 6 p.m., followed by Chaney playing the hosting team, Fitch at 7:30 p.m. On Dec. 30, the tournament continues with Chaney playing Boardman at 6 p.m., and Poland versus Fitch at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students.

A.M.S. wrestling season has begun

The Austintown Middle School wrestling team competed in the Twinsburg Annual Dual Meet Tournament Dec. 5, going 3-2. The Falcons lost to Kenston 47-39, and Twinsburg 51-30. They defeated Brecksville 52-33, Maple Heights 48-41 and Streetsboro 45-42. Wrestlers Camran Rezapourian, Tony Behanna and Luke Peterson were 5-0 for the day.

The team wrestled Howland and Canfield on Dec. 9, went to the Massillon Jackson Tournament and the Canton Hartford Tournament Dec. 12.

A.M.S. Red Team defeated Howland, Hubbard, Akron Oakwood and Akron Crenshaw. They lost to New Philadelphia and Canton Oakwood. The Blue Team defeated Hubbard, Melvern and Canton Glenwood, and lost to Jackson-Milton.

Harry Baumgartner, Jacob Franks, Ben Burney, Casey O’Brien, Taylor Balog, Tony Behanna, Brett Weidenthal, Camran Razapourian, Luke Peterson and Zach Mackall were congratulated by the coaches for their practice and work ethic, leadership and positive results on the mat.

Fitch student repeats in Columbus

Fitch girls bowling came in 6th place out of 28 schools at the Kick-Off Tournament held in Columbus Dec. 5. Vickie Berquest made the All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. Vickie shot 158, 208, 215 for a 581. Her total was 5th highest.
