Teen attacked on bus

YOUNGSTOWN — A South Side teen told police he was beaten and robbed of a video-game system while riding the bus.

The 16-year-old Parkcliff Avenue boy told police he was listening to music on a Sony PlayStation portable player while riding the bus from Choffin Career and Technical Center to Mahoning Valley Opportunity Center on Glenwood Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

The boy said he was punched in the head and beaten by several other teens as he got off the bus.

The boy told police his PlayStation system was stolen out of his bookbag by the attackers during the fight. Teachers were able to retrieve a game stolen with the system, but the system was not found.

East Side shooters sought

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine who is responsible for shooting a man in the leg and shoulder as he walked down an East Side street.

The 51-year-old Fruit Street man told police he was walking down Loveless Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a car drove past and fired shots, hitting him in the leg and shoulder. The man told police he did not see the color or make of the car from which the shots were fired.

A 27-year-old Truesdale man found the shooting victim lying in the street and took him to the hospital. Police smelled a strong odor of marijuana on the 27-year-old man, and he admitted to smoking the drug earlier that evening.

Police confiscated a handgun from the 27-year-old for safekeeping. He did have a concealed-carry permit for the weapon.

Robbers take $47, leave cell phone, iPod

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for two masked gunmen who robbed a couple in the downtown area.

According to police, a 19-year-old Boardman woman and a 25-year-old Warren man were walking through an alley near 131 W. Commerce St. around 2 a.m. Friday when two men brandishing guns ordered them to the ground. The men demanded money and took $47 from the woman.

Reports say the men searched the woman’s purse but did not take a cell phone or IPod inside the purse. The thieves also searched the man’s wallet but tossed it aside without taking anything out of it.

Police searched the downtown area but could not find the men.
