Eleven German high school students and two of their teachers said goodbye to Boardman High School and their host families Dec. 1 after a 10-day visit to the states.

The exchange students arrived from Gesamtschule in Hennef, Germany, the Sunday before Thanksgiving and experienced a number of unique activities that exposed them to the American culture.

Besides attending classes, the students attended a Phantoms hockey game, an evening out at Casa Fiesta restaurant and a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Before returning to Germany, they took a two-day trip to Washington D.C. to see the White House, the Capitol and the Vietnam Memorial.

The exchange program was arranged by Sieglinde Warren of Boardman and Ingrid Dietel in Germany.

Boardman students who hosted exchange students will travel to Hennef in June for a 10-day visit.
