City man wounded in shooting on East Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are trying to determine who is responsible for shooting a man in the leg and shoulder as he walked down an East Side street.

The 51-year-old Fruit Street man told police he was walking down Loveless Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Thursday when a car drove past and fired shots hitting him in the leg and shoulder. The man told police he did not see the color or make of the car from which the shots were fired.

A 27-year-old Truesdale man found the shooting victim lying in the street and took him to the hospital. Police smelled a strong odor of marijuana on the 27-year-old man, and he admitted to smoking the drug earlier that evening.

Police confiscated a handgun from the 27-year-old for safekeeping. He did have a concealed-carry permit for the weapon.
