LORDSTOWN — The Animal Welfare Shelter, 545 Brunstetter Road N.W., will have a holiday adoption open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. 2 dead in Sebring

SEBRING — An investigation is under way into the deaths of two people found in the basement of a home at 111 West Texas Ave. The Sebring Police Department notified the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office said Wednesday that Douglas R. Strother, 41, and Tina L. McGarvey, 40, were found in the basement of the home Tuesday night. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is helping in the investigation. Broadcast reports said officials are looking at electrocution as the possible cause of death.

Police Chief Ray Heverly and coroner’s investigator Richard Jamrozik were both unavailable to comment further.

Police seeking 3 robbers

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for three men responsible for robbing the Red and White grocery store in the 800 block of Elm Street. According to police, the men entered the North Side store just after 5 p.m. Tuesday brandishing guns and demanding money. The thieves took money from each cash register and an office while holding employees at gunpoint. Police collected a glove dropped by one of the men as evidence, but no arrests have been made.

Coats for Kids Giveaway

WARREN — Councilman Bob Dean’s fifth annual Coats for Kids Giveaway will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at North Mar Church Gym, 3855 E. Christmas magic show

YOUNGSTOWN — Tom Phoolery Productions and Happy Campers Learning Center, sponsored by Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., will present a Christmas magic show at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Tom Phoolery has been presenting children’s shows for some 25 years in the Youngstown area. Tom and Santa will perform magic. Santa will give gifts to neighborhood children, and the church will provide Christmas baskets to needy families of Happy Campers.

Steak & Lube dinner

SHARON, Pa. — Quaker Steak & Lube will provide a Christmas dinner at 5 p.m. Monday for 90 people who were invited through area churches.

Quaker Steak asked churches to supply names of those in need. Participants were Covenant Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church, Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church.

Quaker Steak employees, Sirna and Sons Produce and Reinhart Food Service are donating their time and food for the dinner.

Last year, the event was at the Austintown location where Mike Colello, general manager, arranged a Christmas dinner for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.

7th Ward Citizens meet

YOUNGSTOWN — 7th Ward Citizens Coalition meets at 6:30 tonight at the OCCHA Hall, 3660 Shirley Road, near Midlothian Boulevard. Guest speaker is Jim London of the Idora Neighbors, followed by the annual Christmas social. The public is invited. Those attending should bring nonperishable food, toiletries or cleaning supplies for the Christmas baskets to be distributed to the needy of the 7th Ward.
