Ohio company cited by OSHA after worker’s death in fall

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a southwest Ohio company after a worker’s death and proposes $28,500 in penalties.

The agency said Monday that its inspection of Ucl Inc. in Cincinnati found eight alleged violations of federal workplace safety and health standards, including lack of fall protection, training deficiencies and scaffolding hazards.

OSHA began its inspection in August after Ucl worker Edmond Gourdon, of Covington, La., fell while painting a bridge over Interstate 75 north of Cincinnati and died.

OSHA says the company has 15 days from receipt of the citations to comply, contest the citations before an independent review commission or request a conference with OSHA.

Ucl did not immediately return calls seeking comment Monday.
