AUSTINTOWN — A 33-year-old Liberty Township man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 80.

Stephen C. Kloos was struck at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, said the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post.

Kloos had run out of gas. He was walking east on the road when he was hit by the truck driven by John Tyson, 67, of Columbus, the post said.

The accident is still under investigation.

Kloos, a resident at the Logan Arms Apartments, had lived in Liberty all his life, said a neighbor of his parents’, Pam DiGiacobbe.

His parents are John and Erma Slack Kloos.

“He was a good kid. Everybody loved him,” his father said. “But you never know these days.”

“Everybody is still in shock over it,” DiGiacobbe said.

Kloos was a 1994 graduate of Liberty High School. He attended the New Castle School of Trades to become an electrician.

He worked for Indalex Aluminum Solutions plant in Girard, then for four months for Northern Stars Metals of Youngstown.
