Cory descendants have 100th reunion

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

DARLINGTON, Pa. — Cory families of Western Pennsylvania, the national Cory Family Society of America, and England’s Cory Society gathered Aug. 1 for a 100th reunion. The day began with a tour of the five buildings of Little Beaver Historical Society and the Greersburg Academy, where many Cory artifacts are displayed.

During a luncheon at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, the 400-year-old Cory “Create Book” was presented to the historical society on loan for one year. Written around 1603 by the Rev. Richard Rogers, a Puritan minister of Wethersfield, England, and given to the first John Cory by his mother, it has been passed down to the eldest son through 12 generations.

Elected as officers for 2010 were Jim Lisica of Prospect, Pa., president; Gary Lisica of Stoneboro, Pa., vice president and Webmaster; and Diana Maye of Akron, secretary/treasurer.

The next reunion will be Aug. 8, 2010, at East Palestine Park.
