New Castle sees fire in same house

Monday, August 24, 2009

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — There have been so many arsons or unsolved fires in this city that, now, some abandoned buildings are being torched a second time.

The latest suspicious fire was on Sunday in an abandoned house that first burned Aug. 12.

Fire Chief Thomas Sansone says most of the fires are being set in the city’s lower east side, where there are more than 100 vacant homes and buildings.

Since January 2008, the city has been hit with 46 confirmed arsons and eight more undetermined fires.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been investigating and authorities say they now have suspects — including two juveniles. But police have not yet charged them with setting any of fires.
