Ohio man gets 30 days in jail for pushing umpire

Thursday, August 20, 2009

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — A man who pushed an umpire down during his adult son’s softball game has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

Ronald Reed, 48, also was ordered to stay away from the city’s ball fields and parks for two years by a judge in Lima who convicted him of assault on Wednesday.

Lima’s parks director Ric Stolly says Reed got upset over a call during a game in July and ran out onto the field to argue with the umpire.

The umpire told Judge William Lauber of Lima Municipal Court that he already had asked Reed twice to leave the area before because of his behavior.
