HBO spotlights Dayton GM plant closing

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Workers who lost their jobs when General Motors Corporation shut down a sport utility vehicle plant in the Dayton suburb of Moraine will get a special preview of a movie about the closing.

A documentary film chronicling the final months of the 27-year-old GM plant and the impact on workers’ lives will be screened for them tonight in Dayton.

Some of the nearly 1,100 workers who lost their jobs will see HBO’s documentary, “The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant.” The 40-minute film debuts on Labor Day.

The film makers shot footage over several months of workers outside the plant and in nearby bars and restaurants. Workers themselves shot footage inside the plant.
