Clear Channel lays off workers at radio stations

BOARDMAN — Clear Channel laid off some workers at local radio stations Tuesday.

The number of layoffs and names of the workers are not being released, said Bill Kelly, area vice president. He said the cutbacks were part of a larger number of layoffs made throughout the corporation because the recession has hurt Clear Channel’s finances.

“It was nothing specific with the Youngstown market,” he said.

Clear Channel operates WKBN-570, MIX 98.9, 1390 WNIO, BIG 106.1, 95.9 KISS-FM and 93.3 NCD.

The banking company set aside $450,000 last quarter to cover loan losses, compared with $110,000 in the same quarter last year. As of March 31, total nonperforming loans amounted to $9.6 million, compared with $2.3 million a year earlier.
