Evidence challenged in killing of Cleveland Marine

CLEVELAND (AP) — The defense is challenging evidence against a Cleveland man arrested in the death of a Marine who was shot and robbed of $8 while on leave from Iraq and later died.

Defense attorneys for 22-year-old Thomas Ray are challenging the prosecution’s evidence during a court hearing today. A second defendant, 20-year-old Ean Farrow of Cleveland, faces a May 11 trial.

They could face the death penalty if convicted of aggravated murder and other charges in last year’s shooting of 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Robert Crutchfield.

Crutchfield was left disabled by a gunshot while waiting for a bus in Cleveland and died four months later of an infection that authorities say was related to his injuries.
