Columbiana knocks off Lisbon for 11th victory; Niles topples LaBrae


COLUMBIANA — Eric Kissel had a triple and four RBIs and Ty Denmeade knocked in two runs to lead Columbiana High over Lisbon, 8-1, in a high school baseball game on Tuesday.

A five-run second inning broke the game open for Columbiana (11-3, 8-1 ITCL).

Denmeade, Tyler DeJong and Josh Harold had two hits apiece for the winners, while Russell McCollough doubled for Lisbon (4-13, 2-7).

Niles 8, LaBrae 2

NILES — Evan Bollinger had a pair of doubles and two RBIs whlie Mike Livi tripled for Niles. Nic Capogreco got the win with five scoreless innings of relief.

Livi and Dustin Petzak also had two hits for the Red Dragons. Alex Warne had two of LaBrae’s six hits.

Mooney 12, St. Thomas Aquinas 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Mooney had 14 hits in the six-inning victory on Monday night.

Boo Vazquez had three hits including two triples, while Owen Timlin and Anthony Franceschelli also tripled for the Cardinals (10-0).

Brad Byers, Dan Eich and Ed Reese had two hits for Mooney. Eich (2-0) was the winner in relief. Aquinas is 8-9.

Lowellville 22, Wellsville 1

WELLSVILLE — Senior Dante Abbas tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Rockets (9-8, 6-2 ITCL Tier Two). Louie Lebron had three hits and three RBIs for the Rockets. Teammates Drew Skelley had a double and three RBIs and Brian Rossadivita had a double and single and two RBIs. T. LaClair had the lone hit — a double — with one out in the fifth inning for Wellsville.

Softball

UNIONTOWN — Katie O’Loughlin hit a grand slam in the second inning but Fitch (3-9, 0-4) couldn’t hold its lead in a 10-5 Federal League loss to Uniontown Lake.

Jena Baun, Megan Carney, Carly Ortz and Alyssa Jones each had two hits for the Falcons.

Lowellville 17, Crestview 0

LOWELLVILLE — Junior Cori Pavlicko threw a no-hitter as the Rockets (10-3, 4-2) won their ninth consecutive game on Monday night.

Pavlicko had 13 strikeouts and walked one as she faced only 17 batters — two more than the minimum in a five-inning game.

Lena Notareschi had a pair of triples, scored three runs and had three RBIs. Shawna McDowell had three singles, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Kayla Maszczak and Gina Stouffer had two hits apiece.
