Activities abound in Mill Creek

CANFIELD — Right about this time of year many area families begin to look for fun outdoor activities.

Winter is over and it’s time to put away the heavy coats and bring out the inline skates.

Under consideration are activities that are close by, not too costly and available to children of all ages.

Sounds like a promotional brochure for Mill Creek MetroParks, doesn’t it?

While the park offers activities year around, it’s in the spring that the daffodils bloom by the thousands at Fellows Riverside Gardens, the boat houses open and the golf course becomes a mecca for local enthusiasts.

The Recreation Department of the park is planning many structured family-related activities in the next several months that are either free or are available at minimum expense.

There are community walks, a boat safety course, and the YMCA has a 5-mile run on May 23.

A popular event is the Hooked on Fishing activity planned for June 6 at Yellow Creek Park.

Other family fun days will be the Sun Fest, complete with sand sculpture competition, on July 26, and the Reptile and Raptor Exhibit on Aug. 2.

The park has an excellent web site that lists a lot of upcoming activities at millcreekmetroparks.org.

You can also call the park’s main office at (330) 702-3000.
