Two candidates are running in the May 5 Democratic primary for Youngstown mayor. There are no Republican mayoral candidates. An (*) denotes the incumbent.

JAY WILLIAMS* (D)

Age: 38.

Home: 3768 Castle Court.

Education: A bachelor of science and a bachelor of arts degree in finance from Youngstown State University.

Employment: Youngstown mayor.

Family: Wife, Sonja.

Priority: To continue to make progress in the areas of safety, economic development and neighborhood progress within the context of the Youngstown 2010 plan and to prepare to carry this progress into Youngstown 2020. Regional collaboration will also continue to remain a priority.

FRANK BELLAMY (D)

Age: 56.

Home: 33 W. Princeton Ave.

Education: A master’s degree from the University of Akron, and a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina Central University.

Employment: A political consultant.

Family: Married with two children.

Priority: To provide 10 years’ worth of free city water and special police patrols for suburban families who move to the city’s South Side. Also increased police patrols for the 5th Ward and the neighborhoods around Mill Creek Park.
