Signing up for state’s deductible program

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s private employers have until May 31 to sign up for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s new deductible program.

The program is designed to give employers better control of their workers’ compensation insurance spending. It goes into effect July 1.

Similar to other insurance deductible plans, an employer agrees to pay the portion of a workers’ compensation injury claim that falls below their selected deductible level. For taking on this degree of risk, the employer will receive a premium discount. The program will initially offer five deductible levels from $500 per claim up to $10,000 per claim.

Environmentally Friendly Green Painting opens

LOWELLVILLE — Green Painting has opened for business and planted several trees in Beaver Township to commemorate the formation of the environmentally friendly painting company.

Green Painting, a residential and commercial painting company based in Lowellville, is owned by Gerald Benson.

Green Painting will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation toward the planting of a tree after completing each job. Green Painting is also offering a 10 percent discount to customers who choose organic paints over conventional paints and will provide a $10 discount to customers who go paperless and pay their invoices online. Ribbon-cutting set for Progressive Printing

HUBBARD — The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. May 6 for Progressive Printing Services, 264 W. Liberty St. The owner is Michael Padenich.

Also, Ray Fallen’s State Farm Insurance office has joined the chamber.

Reardon’s Painting joins builders association

VIENNA — Reardon’s Painting of Masury has joined the Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Reardon’s is a commercial painting and wall covering firm servicing eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Library programs set for Small Business Week

BOARDMAN — The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will have several programs for National Small Business Week.

SCORE, which provides counseling to small business owners, and the library will have a small- business seminar at 6 p.m. May 4 at the Boardman branch. The seminar will teach information about starting a business, including business and marketing plans, finances and technology.

A tour of the library for entrepreneurs will be at 6:30 p.m. May 18 at the main library. A librarian from the library’s Business & Investment Center will introduce print and electronic sources useful for business growth.

At 6:30 p.m. May 20 at the Austintown library, Ron Massullo, regional liaison for Ohio secretary of state, will cover filings, licensure requirements and other aspects of creating an Ohio business.

Creating a Business Plan will be at 10 a.m. May 23 at the Newport branch library. Robert McClain, vice chairman of the Youngstown chapter of SCORE, will explain how to write and edit a business plan.
