Relay is sign-up site for long-term study

WARREN — The Warren Relay for Life on May 8 is designated by the American Cancer Society as a sign-up site for ACS’s long-term study of lifestyle and cancer called the Cancer Prevention Study–3, or CPS-3.

Enrollment hours are 7 to 11 p.m. at 147 W. Market St. at the former location of Showcase Books on Trumbull County Courthouse Square, the location of the Warren Relay.

Participants will answer periodic questionnaires about their lifestyle, such as what they eat, how much exercise they get and whether or not they smoke.

Over the course of 20 years, ACS researchers will track the participants to see if they develop cancer. This will provide some insight into the role a person’s lifestyle, environment and genetic makeup plays in the disease.

Anyone between the age of 30 and 65 who has never had cancer, other than basal or squamous cell skin cancer, can sign up for CPS-3.

To enroll, participants must answer a brief questionnaire, get their waist measured, give a blood sample and agree to the long-term follow-up the study requires.
