Police say shooting began in parking dispute

YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a shooting that sent a Parkcliffe Avenue man to the hospital apparently resulted from a parking dispute.

Demetric D. Cobb, 27, was shot twice in the dispute around 6 p.m. Thursday on Hilton Avenue on the city’s South Side, police said.

Cobb told police that he was driving on Hilton when he spotted a cousin walking up the street and pulled his car into the driveway of a vacant house in the 200 block to speak with him.

There was already another vehicle parked in the driveway, and the occupants of that vehicle wanted Cobb to move his car, he told police.

An argument ensued, and both sides produced guns and got into a shootout, Cobb told police.

Police said they have the identity of a second suspect in the case, but no arrests have been made.

Cobb remains in St. Elizabeth Health Center. The hospital refused to release any information on his condition.

Board fires teacher, citing impropriety

COLUMBIANA — Crestview Board of Education fired English teacher Shari Clark, saying she had been in an inappropriate relationship with a female student last year.

Superintendent John Dilling said she had not been in the schools or been paid since July 2008. She is not in the area, he added. The board took the action Thursday.

Clark, a 15-year district employee, had served as a cheerleading adviser.

Clark appealed the decision last year that included lengthy closed hearings in Columbus. The hearing’s decision from an independent referee was that she had been in the relationship.

The case came to light in early 2008.
