Firefighters called to battle 2 blazes

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters in Youngstown were called out to two fires Friday night.

A coal tower at Youngstown Thermal on North Avenue caught fire around 6:30 p.m., officials said.

No one was injured, and officials said it was most likely an electrical fire that spread due to coal dust and wood scraps.

The second call was around 9 p.m. to a vacant house at 144 Siliman St. on the city’s West Side.

That blaze was intentionally set on the second floor; neighbors said the house had been vacant for a couple of years, officials said.
