Jury selection to begin in death penalty case
YOUNGSTOWN — Jury selection for the capital murder trial of Curtis Young will continue on Monday, with the jury tentatively scheduled to visit the crime scene Monday afternoon, and opening statements from the lawyers likely on Tuesday morning, according to Robert E. Regula Jr., court administrator.
Throughout this week, prospective jurors have been interviewed by the prosecuting and defense lawyers and Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, individually and out of earshot of other potential jurors.
A spokeswoman for the judge said two alternates are being selected in addition to the panel of 12 regular jurors.
Young, 26, of North Center Street, is charged with the July 31, 2007, aggravated murders of his ex-girlfriend, Helen Moore, 29, of Cassius Street, her full-term fetus, and her 8-year-old son, Ceonei, with firearm and death penalty specifications.
