Flag raised in remembrance of boy, 11, killed in shooting

The acting chief says the department believes it has identified all the participants.
WARREN — The Trumbull County Victim’s Flag was once again raised to remember a county child whose life was cut short by violence.
But for the family of 11-year-old Lloyd McCoy Jr., the biggest moment Thursday may have come minutes before the flag went up in front of the Trumbull County Jail, when a detective with the Warren Police Department told them that they have identified two more of the men they believe ended Lloyd’s life April 13.
Tim Bowers, acting Warren police chief, said later the department has issued arrest warrants for Eugene “Mike” Henderson and Eugene Cumberbatch, both of southwest Warren, charging them each with two counts of murder.
Police have notified other law enforcement agencies that Henderson, 25, of Lane Drive Southwest, is “known to be in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle.”
An arrest-warrant flier for Cumberbatch, 26, of Front Street Southwest, says he “may be in possession of a firearm.”
Detective Wayne Mackey said the reference to an AK-47 doesn’t mean that is for sure the type of weapon used in the drive-by shooting that killed Lloyd and his sister’s 26-year-old boyfriend, Marvin J. Chaney.
“An assault-style rifle was used in the crime,” Mackey said. Police say around 20 bullets were fired into the house at 2290 Wick St. S.E. about 9:50 p.m., killing Chaney and hitting Lloyd and his 3-year-old nephew.
Police won’t say how many people they think were in the car in which the shooters rode or how many weapons were used.
Lloyd died Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center from his injuries. The 3-year-old, Joshua McCoy, was at the flag raising and is recovering well, family members said.
Marcus Yager, 22, of Vine Avenue Northeast pleaded innocent Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court to complicity to murder after police arrested him Tuesday in the case.
Bowers said he believes the department has now identified all the people responsible for the crime, adding “these two guys [Henderson and Cumberbatch] are murderers.”
Bowers asked that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Henderson and Cumberbatch to contact Mackey “to get these animals off the street.” Mackey’s phone number is (330) 841-2684.
Henderson is under indictment in Trumbull County on a charge of cocaine trafficking and was sentenced to one year in prison in 2006 on two counts of cocaine trafficking.
Cumberbatch was most recently charged with receiving stolen property in Mahoning County, but a warrant was issued for his arrest in 2007 when he failed to appear for a hearing.
Both men have been charged with numerous crimes in Warren Municipal Court since 2001.
After the ceremony, Lloyd’s mother, Pam McCoy, said her son was quick to help out with leaf raking, taking out the trash or anything he was asked.
“He loved everyone,” she said. “There wasn’t anything you couldn’t ask him to do.”
His father, Lloyd McCoy Sr., said his son loved football and baseball and wanted to be like Le-Bron James, the star player for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“He was my best friend,” Lloyd Sr. said of his son.
Brittnay McCoy, Lloyd Jr.’s older sister who is Chaney’s girlfriend and Joshua’s mother, was in the house at the time of the shooting.
“I loved Marvin, and I loved my brother. He was my only brother. It wasn’t necessary,” she said of the killing.
