YOUNGSTOWN — Loveland Road will be closed indefinitely at Poland Avenue and extending about 525 feet south starting today.

The closure is a preventative measure against the persistent illegal dumping of trash, which poses a public health and safety hazard, officials said Wednesday.

Help Hotline luncheon

BOARDMAN — Help Hotline Crisis Center’s Victims’ Assistance Program is having its annual luncheon in honor of victims of crime Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

Speakers for the event, which is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., are Jim Johnston, regional public affairs director for the Ohio attorney general’s office, and Maggie Maloy, victims’ advocate in the Bucyrus city prosecutor’s office.

The cost is $15. Make checks payable to Help Hotline Crisis Center, P.O. Box 46, Youngstown, OH 44501. The deadline is Friday.

Continuing education units are offered for counseling and social work.

Disposal of bicycles

STRUTHERS — The Struthers Police Department is disposing of some 34 bicycles that have been recovered and unclaimed over the last several years.

The bicycles will be available to the public for examination and recovery from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the police department garage at 6 Elm St.

Anyone seeking to recover a lost or stolen bicycle should bring documentation of purchase and/or ownership that includes a description of the bicycle and a serial number, said Police Chief Robert M. Norris.

Oral cancer benefit

HERMITAGE, Pa. — The second annual oral cancer walk, “Walk and Rock for Oral Cancer,” will be Saturday at Buhl Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at 11 a.m. The walk is about 2 1‚Ñ2 miles or once around the park.

Each registered walker receives a free T-shirt and tote bag filled with goodies. Also included are a free concert by Groove Clinic, free lunch provided by Marchelloni’s, free raffle, gift certificates, gift baskets and more.

All proceeds will be given to the Oral Cancer Research Foundation to raise awareness and conduct research.

Burglary, theft charges

NEWTON FALLS — John Huzvar, 38, of Newton Drive will be arraigned later on burglary and theft charges after being accused of walking into another man’s apartment, ransacking the bathroom cabinet and passing out on the toilet, police said.

Huzvar was still sitting on the toilet in a Newton Drive apartment when police arrived about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday. He was taken to Forum Health Northside Medical Center.

Police charged Huzvar with burglary, a felony, and theft, a misdemeanor. The only item he is accused of stealing is a disposable razor, police said.

Lt. Richard Lisum said police have a hold on Huzvar so that he can be arrested when he is released from the hospital. He will be arraigned on the charges after that, Lisum added.

Leetonia water flushing

LEETONIA — The Leetonia Water Department is starting its 2009 water distribution system flushing program. The program will take about two to three weeks to complete.

Customers are being cautioned the discolored water might cause staining during the flushing process.

Robbery in Warren

WARREN — The office manager at Candlelight Apartments, 1006 Harvard Avenue S.E., told police he was robbed by a masked man carrying a large folding knife Tuesday afternoon.

The robber got away with $76 and left about 1:40 p.m., Warren police said.

Grave decoration panel

YOUNGSTOWN — The grave decoration committee of the Mahoning County United Veterans Council will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission Office, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Entrance A, to issue flags for Memorial Day placement on graves.

Also, applications for Memorial Day expenses will be available.
