GM to shut down Lordstown production May 29 to July 13

General Motors will shut down production at its Lordstown complex from May 29 to July 13 as part of a company-wide effort to trim its inventory of cars and trucks, a source said.

Managers informed workers of the closing today. GM is closing 13 of its assembly plants for up to eight weeks.

The six-week shutdown in Lordstown includes one week of downtown starting June 22 that was previously scheduled and a two-week summer shutdown that occurs annually to prepare for next year’s car models.
