Daffodil weekend at Fellows Gardens

Thursday, April 23, 2009

YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks will feature Fellows Riverside Gardens’ Daffodil Show from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Entries from the public will be accepted until 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by judging and open viewing.

Featured will be the first showing of narcissus, “Fellows Favorite,” a daffodil cultivar named for the gardens and hybridized by Brent and Becky Heath of Gloucester, Va. It was named in 2008 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the gardens, where it was planted in October.

The Gardens are celebrating the first season as an official American Daffodil Society Display Garden. The designation, the only one in Ohio, ranks the Gardens among the best 18 display gardens to see daffodils. For more information call (330) 740-7116.
