YOUNGSTOWN — Two hundred and sixty students will complete service projects at 17 community sites during the eighth annual United Way Youth Day of Caring on Saturday.

This year, United Way partnered with one of its funded agencies, HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley, to organize and coordinate the event, which is sponsored by Farmers National Bank and Wedgewood Pizza.

United Way officials said projects will be done at Assumption Village, Beatitude House, Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown, Burdman Group, Casa Madre–Ursuline Sisters, Children’s Center for Science and Technology, Easter Seals of Mahoning/Trumbull, Grow Youngstown, Lien Forward Ohio, Marian Living Center, Senior Citizen Home, Shoebox of Love Project, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, Unity in the Community Parade, Youngstown City Scape, YSU–North Side Clean-Up, and YWCA of Youngstown.

The students will assemble at 8 a.m. at the YMCA in downtown Youngstown for breakfast and an overview of the day, after which they will go to their assigned projects. They will meet back at the YMCA at noon for lunch and to share their experiences and re-cap the day.

United Way Youth Day of Caring activities are designed to increase awareness of United Way and its affiliated agencies and how they work to meet community needs and to increase awareness of the important roles volunteers play in helping to make the Mahoning Valley a better place, officials said.
