YOUNGSTOWN — The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association has chosen Katherine E. Novak as its Woman of the Year 2009-2010.

Novak will represent the chapter at the National Convention in the fall in Kansas City, Kan., as ABWA celebrates its 60th anniversary. She was honored when chapter members met March 10 at Davidson’s Restaurant in Cornersburg.

Novak has worked for the Cafaro Co. for 23 years. She has served on many chapter committees, such as membership, Christmas, anniversary, business associate night, bulletin, enrollment events and history. She has volunteered for Relay for Life every spring at Boardman Middle School, where the Mill Creek Chapter has a team.

She has served as the vice president for the chapter for four years and as secretary for two. Novak received the Woman of the Year title in 1994, when she attended the National Convention in Denver, Colo.

The honoree has for many years been the vice president of the Youngstown American Hungarian Federation, which requires her to be in charge of public relations; preparing for the annual commemorative March program, and preparing for the Magyar Hap Festival. These events generate funds that are shared with local Hungarian churches and societies, as well as with support organizations in Hungary.

In September 2006, Novak was chosen the MVP for the William Penn Association Branch 28 in Youngstown. She is a member of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, where she participates in numerous activities such as the finance committee, fundraising, St. Vincent de Paul Society, reading at Mass and assisting with special events.
