11-year-old boy dies of wounds in drive-by shooting in Warren

WARREN — A drive-by shooting on Wick Street Southeast April 13 has claimed a second life — that of the 11-year-old boy who was visiting his young relative and sitting on the living room couch when dozens of bullets ripped through the home.

Lloyd McCoy Jr. who lived across the street from the home at 2290 Wick St., died Tuesday morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

The boy’s father, Lloyd Sr., said his son was about to come home any minute from the neighbor’s house where the shooting took place.

The boy was there visiting his 3-year-old nephew, Joshua McCoy, who lived in the home, said Lloyd Sr., who also is the grandfather of the 3-year-old. Joshua was hit in the shoulder but is recovering well, McCoy family members said.
