FORT AMANDA | History, mission
A few facts from War of 1812-era Fort Amanda:
Built in 1812 by Kentucky troops.
Enlarged to nearly double the original size in 1813 by Ohio militia soldiers.
Fort’s walls stood 11 feet high.
On the banks of the Auglaize River, served as a supply depot and hospital fort.
A diary kept by Ensign William Schillinger of the Ohio militia gives a daily account of weather conditions, activities at the fort and his personal observations.
