Ohio National Guard wins environmental award
COLUMBUS — The Ohio National Guard received the 2008 Army National Guard Environmental Stewardship Award in recognition of its efforts to meet and exceed environmental standards in compliance with environmental regulations.
The Army National Guard Environmental Stewardship Award is presented annually at the National Environmental Workshop to the Army National Guard state or territory that has performed best during the calendar year. In the process of evaluating each state or territory, the National Guard Bureau’s Environmental Office grades the areas of compliance, conservation, resources and cleanup.
PROMOTION
Air Force Reserve major
VIENNA — Capt. Brent J. Davis, public affairs chief of the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, has been selected for promotion to the rank of major in the Air Force Reserve.
Davis, of Austintown, is a former resident of Westlake and 1985 graduate of Westlake High School. He has served in the Air Force Reserve for nearly 12 years. He recently was awarded a Humanitarian Medal for his media relations contribution during Hurricane Ike and the Hurricane Gustav aerial spray relief campaign. In addition, he’s been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal “M” device, an Air Force Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon for his Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom media support in the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation.
In 2007, Davis was awarded a medal for best public-affairs support to Air Force Reserve recruiting for the command. He is the son of Jack and Leota Davis of Wellington, Fla., also formerly of Westlake.
RETIREMENT
Sergeant major retires
YOUNGSTOWN — Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Rudolph J. Frazzini has retired after 30 years of service. His retirement ceremony was conducted at Headquarters, Marine Corps Forces Pacific, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.
Serving most of his career in the Reserve, Frazzini was activated numerous times and is veteran of the Gulf War in 1990-91 and the Global War on Terrorism, deploying to Afghanistan in 2004.
Frazzini’s awards and decorations include; Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy Commendation Medal with gold star, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Select Marine Corps Reserve Medal with silver star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Medal with star, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
He is the son of Irene Frazzini of Youngstown and the late Rudy Frazzini. He has three siblings who live in Ohio: a brother, David Chauvin of Youngstown, and sisters Kathy Culver of Akron and Susan Beil of Columbus.
Frazzini, a 1978 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, attended Youngstown State University in the pre-forestry program and received a bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University in 1984. He lives in Independence, Ore., with his wife, Sally, where they live near their two children and seven grandchildren. He is employed as a forester for Forest Capital Partners, managing timberlands in the coastal range of Oregon.

Master’s degree in Navy
POLAND — Navy Lt. Christine L. Fix, daughter of Carol S. and Marvin L. Fix of Poland, has received a master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif., preparing her for leadership in defense matters. Fix joined the Navy in 1994, the same year she graduated from Springfield Local High School in New Middletown.
Infantry officer leader
Army National Guard 2nd Lt. Michael A. Bromley graduated from the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Benning, Ga. Bromley, an infantry officer, is the son of Ronald Bromley of Fredonia, Pa., and Vicky Bromley of Franklin, Pa. He graduated in 2000 from Lakeview High School in Stoneboro, Pa., and received a bachelor’s degree in 2005 from Slippery Rock University, Pa.
