Child found walking alone

LIBERTY — Township police are investigating how and why a 4-year-old girl was found walking along Warner Road alone Wednesday.

Officers questioned the child after she was found by a concerned citizen and determined that she wandered away from the Oblate Sisters Novitiate early that day in search of her mother, reports said.

As police spoke with the child, another woman told officers the same child was seen walking alone in a nearby parking lot two weeks ago. Reports said an “evaluation of the child’s fitness/desire to be in school” would be conducted.

Robbery suspect arrested

BOARDMAN — Township police and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrested a Youngstown man on a warrant, accusing him of robbing an 89-year-old woman of her purse.

Timothy Riley, 18, of East Florida Avenue was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a home on Hammaker Street.

Police had issued a warrant accusing Riley of the Sept. 14 robbery. Riley was taken to Mahoning County Jail.

The victim told police she arrived at the Shell Station, Market Street, on Sept. 14 and got out of her car when a man grabbed her purse from her arm. She and the thief pulled the purse back and forth between them until the strap broke and he ran, with the purse, across Indianola and south behind a video store.

Two people ran after him but lost sight of the robber. Police found the purse. The woman discovered that $25, a credit card and personal papers were missing.
