Thursday, September 25, 2008

SALINEVILLE — Peter J. Elliot, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio, said the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, along with assistance from the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department, the Salineville Police Department, the Youngstown Police Department, the Craig Beach Police Department, and the U.S. Probation Department, arrested Brian Lee Wood, 29, as he left a trailer on Malone Road here today.

Wood was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for a federal supervised release violation after it was discovered that he was in possession of an assault rifle earlier in the week.

Upon being confronted by his probation officer, Wood briefly barricaded himself in his residence on East Main Street, then managed to flee through a window by removing an air conditioner unit.

Law enforcement personnel conducted an extensive manhunt in and around the Salineville area over the past two days.

Wood, currently on federal supervision as the result of a 2004 conviction for interstate transportation of stolen goods, has an extensive arrest history in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri.
