WARREN — A 28-year-old Youngstown man has been charged in the robbery and fatal shooting at Freddie’s Diner last month.

Ardeed Mitchell is being held without bond in Trumbull County Jail on charges of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.

A date for his preliminary hearing has not been set, according to a sheriff’s department spokesman.

Mitchell was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at a Palmyra Road S.W. home by Warren city police and the U.S. Marshall’s Task Force, a police spokeswoman said.

Mitchell is accused of being the gunman who entered Freddie’s at 1125 N. Park Ave. on the morning of Aug. 12 and shot and killed the diner owner, Fred DeVengencie, 90.

The gunman also shot DeVengencie’s son, Anthony, 71, who was released from the hospital Thursday.
