Truck collides with train; one injured

COLUMBIANA— A traffic accident involving a box truck and a train sent one man to the hospital.

James McGee, 25, of Columbiana, was driving westbound on East Park Avenue just after 4 p.m. Thursday when a witness told police McGee couldn’t stop the box truck he was driving.

The witness said McGee swerved to the opposite lane to avoid colliding with traffic that was stopped waiting for the train to pass at the Y&S railroad crossing. His truck struck the fifth car of 12 on the Youngstown & Southeastern Rail Road-owned train that was headed south.

The Columbiana Fire Department was called to the scene to remove McGee from the truck. He was treated by Columbiana EMS and transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center. His condition was not known late Thursday.

No one on the train reported any injuries.

Police are investigating the crash.
