Bomb threat at school

SHARON, Pa. — West Hill Elementary School was evacuated Wednesday after a bomb threat, city police reported. Police Chief Michael Menster said a call came to the 911 system at 9 a.m. that there were explosives in the building.

Pupils and staff stayed at the United Methodist Church a block away while police, including bomb dogs from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department and New Castle police, searched the building. Nothing was found.

Pupils were back in school by 11:30 a.m., Menster said, and police are investigating.

Ohio Lottery online winner

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County resident is the latest winner to claim a prize on an Ohio Lottery online game. William E. Vrabel, of Youngstown, won $111,335.00 for having one of the three winning tickets sold in the Rolling Cash 5 Sunday drawing.

After federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent, Vrabel receives a check for $76,820.

Vrabel purchased the winning ticket from Lucky Lotto, 7401 Market Street in Boardman. Lucky Lotto receives a $500 agent bonus for selling the winning ticket. The winning numbers were 2-9-15-21-30. Vrabel used auto pick.

Trumbull tourism calendar

WARREN — The Trumbull County Tourism Bureau is collecting information for its 2009 Calendar of Events.

The bureau asks all local organizations and groups submit their county event information by Friday.

North Side shooting hospitalizes two victims

YOUNGSTOWN — Officers responded to a shooting at 230 Dupont Street on the North Side of the city around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Two victims, one male and one female, were transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center. Condition reports were not available for either victim late Wednesday night.

There is a possibility a third victim was involved and a potential of three suspects, officers said.

Historical masquerade party planned for Friday

YOUNGSTOWN — Stopping the Violence is hosting a historical masquerade party from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. The party is free for those choosing to wear a costume or provide a treat. The cost otherwise will be $2.

The masquerade is a way to celebrate history, and those in attendance might see the like of historical figures Sam Cook and Tupac.

Participants can provide a brief description of their costume’s historical significance and also perform as that person if they desire.
