Weather delays opening

YOUNGSTOWN — Though the Fallen Firefighters Memorial Bridge opened nearly two weeks ago, Front Street remains closed while painting underneath the bridge is being completed.

Because of the weather, the painting got behind schedule, said Randy Partika, Mahoning County engineer.

Front Street was originally set to reopen by Friday.

“They can only paint when it’s 50 degrees [or above] outside,” he said.

There are about three days’ worth of work left on the bridge, and according to the weather forecast work should be able to resume this weekend.

Front Street could open by the middle of next week at the earliest, Partika said. Weather could always change the time frame, he added.
