Aey loses another attempt to become write-in candidate for sheriff

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Board of Elections refused to permit David P. Aey to be a write-in candidate for sheriff.

Robert J. Rohrbaugh II, Aey’s attorney, asked the board to reinstate his client even though the Ohio Supreme Court ruled Oct. 24 that the board of elections wasn’t permitted to allow Aey to run. Acting on the advice of its attorney, the board denied Rohrbaugh’s request Wednesday.

The court ruled that Aey didn’t have the basic educational requirements to be a sheriff candidate.
