Portion of Front Street downtown remains closed for bridge work
YOUNGSTOWN — Though the Fallen Firefighters Memorial Bridge (Spring Commons bridge) opened nearly two weeks ago, Front Street underneath the bridge remains closed to allow completion of painting underneath the span.
Due to weather the painting got behind schedule, said Randy Partika of the Mahoning County Engineer’s office.
Front Street was originally set to reopen by the end of the month.
“They can only paint when it’s 50 degrees outside,” he said.
There are about three days worth of work left on the bridge and according to the weather forecast work should be able to resume this weekend.
Front Street could open by the middle of next week at the earliest, Partika said. Weather could always change the time frame, he added.
