Pa. Gov. Ed Rendell stumps for Obama in Farrell

FARRELL, Pa. — Gov. Ed Rendell and Ted Kennedy Jr. made a stop here today to keep the fire going under Barak Obama supporters.

Even though Obama is ahead in most polls right now, they should not take a win for granted, Rendell told a crowd of about 100 people at the United Steel Workers of America union hall on Victor Posner Boulevard,

“Palin and McCain are living here,” he said. “And it makes a difference when people see you.”

Rendell said people who originally supported Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary thought she “stood for the right things.”

“She has made 56 appearances for Obama,” Rendell said.

He said that people who originally supported Obama, the senator from Illinois, have come far. “You’ve been at it 22 months with seven days to go,” he said. “Keep going.”

Kennedy said his father, U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., who is battling a brain tumor, asked him to come.

“I came here to thank you for all the support you’ve given my family over the years,” he said.

Other speakers included Kathy Dahlkemper, the Democrat who is challenging U.S. Rep. Phil English for the 3rd District House seat.

“We have one week,” she told the crowd, urging people to “get out and work.”

Rendell said Democrats have 11 out of 19 congressional seats in the state. “We’ll add No. 12 with Kathy,” he said.

Dahlkemper and English, the 14-year Republican incumbent, are in a tight race.
