GMA live from Youngstown Friday

YOUNGSTOWN — “Good Morning America,” ABC’s national morning show, will broadcast live Friday from Youngstown.

The show airs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Show officials contacted Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams to inform him of the decision. Also, Williams said he was asked about places to showcase in the city.

The mayor mentioned the MVR restaurant, the Butler Institute of Art, Mill Creek MetroPark, Youngstown State University and various locations in downtown Youngstown including the Central Square.

The show is expected to include a live interview with John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, who is staying in Youngstown Thursday night and Friday morning as part of a two-day bus tour of Ohio.

“It’s always exciting to get national attention,” Williams said of the “Good Morning America” coming to Youngstown. “...The presidential campaign has focused more attention on Youngstown. We’ll shine and take advantage of it.”

This will be “Good Morning America’s” second visit to the Mahoning Valley.

The show broadcast live Sept. 17 from a farm in Gustavus, a small northern Trumbull County township.

Interestingly, McCain was interviewed on that edition of the show.
