SALEM — Mayor Jerry Wolford has announced that at the request of striking United Steelworkers of America Local 1538, he found a place for the membership to meet.
Lou Ramuno, the superintendent of Salem Public Schools offered the Salem High School auditorium for the meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The workers at American Standard went on strike on Oct. 17 over a proposed new contract that contains both cuts and incentives.
Wolford said, “I, like many others in the Salem community, am hopeful that this meeting will lead to some movement that will result in resolving the strike at American Standard.”
He added, “Having talked last week to both management and union officials, I believe the lines of communications between both sides can be re-established to lead towards resolving this issue.”
