Ursuline wins first AP poll title

The Ursuline High football team won the first Associated Press football poll title in school history on Monday after finishing the regular season 10-0.

The Irish placed first in Division V, edging Hamler Patrick Henry 267-247. The Irish garnered 21 of 28 first place votes.

Ursuline, which plays host to Cuyahoga Heights on Saturday, won a state title in 2000. In Div. III, Poland finished 11th and Liberty was 12th. Mooney placed seventh in Div. IV. Crestview was 12th in Div. V and McDonald was seventh in Div. VI.

This is the third straight year an area team has won an AP poll title. Mooney won it in Div. IV in 2006 and 2007 and South Range was first in Div. V in 2006.
