YOUNGSTOWN — The Regional Chamber is presenting the Mahoning Valley Local Government Leadership Academy program from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays starting Feb. 3 at the Chamber offices, 11 Central Square, Suite 1600. The course fee is $235; the registration deadline is Nov. 28. Classes are open to local public officials and employees, newly elected government officials, those planning to run for office and Chamber members. The nine-week program includes courses aimed at educating participants in local government.

Some course speakers include Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams; Mona Alexander, WFMJ-TV news director; and Susan Willeke, education coordinator for the Ohio Ethics Commission. Learn about Medicaid at forum in Boardman

BOARDMAN — The Alzheimer’s Assistance and Referral Network is offering a Medicaid Seminar to help people better understand Medicaid regulations and the application procedures pertaining to PASSPORT and nursing-home care.

The event will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the meeting room of Boardman Public Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. The presenter will be Atty. Robert Rusu. Vietnam War casualties to be remembered

YOUNGSTOWN — The 17th annual Laying of The Roses at the Vietnam War Memorial on The Square will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 2. One rose will be placed at the monument in memory of each of those Mahoning County residents killed or missing in action during the Vietnam War.

Sharon Regional center receives commendation

HERMITAGE, Pa. — The cancer program at Sharon Regional Health System’s Cancer Care Center has received three-year approval with commendation from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

The commendation is received after an on-site evaluation for standards regarding cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.

In a CoC-approved cancer program, patients have access to the latest services and equipment; a multispecialty team approach to treatment; information about clinical trials and new treatments; access to cancer-related information, education and support; a cancer registry; ongoing monitoring and improvement of care; and care close to home. The center is at 2320 Highland Road.
