MERCER SENTENCES

The following people were sentenced recently in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. According to court documents:

Clarence Caldwell, 35, of Stambaugh Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to six to 18 months house arrest and ordered to make restitution for unlawful delivery of marijuana, a felony. In March and April 2007 he sold about 7 ounces of marijuana in Sharon and Farrell.

Donald Irby, 45, of Orange Drive, Hermitage, was sentenced to 30 to 60 days in jail and given 22 days credit on a resentence for a consolidated count of misdemeanor retail theft. In March 2006, he was placed on probation for stealing three bottles of cologne and two electric razors in 2005 from Rite Aid, 813 E. State, Sharon. He violated his probation by changing his residence without permission.

Charles Simpson, 59, formerly of Taylor Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to eight and a half to 20 years in prison for two counts of felony robbery and two counts of misdemeanor simple assault. Simpson robbed Rite Aid, 60 S. Water Ave., Sharon, at gunpoint Nov. 11, 2007. He threatened to shoot the store manager and clerk and waved the weapon at two men standing at the store’s entrance. Those two men then overpowered Simpson as he exited the store, disarmed him and held him for police.

Monica Williams, 28, of Cedar Avenue, Sharon, was placed on 18 months’ probation and ordered to do 100 hours community service for a consolidated count of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. On July 11, 2007, she tried to bite, kick and punch Sharon Police Officer Eric Squires when he tried to serve an arrest warrant at a Sharon address.
