High school football teams catch a high-scoring fever

Must be something in the water.
Some high school football teams, for some reason, are virally infected with offense. Or maybe they’re immunized against defense.
Just in Central Ohio, in Week 6, Baltimore Liberty-Union beat Millersport 77-0. In Week 7, Grove City Christian beat Manchester 96-20 and DeGraff Riverside beat Marion Catholic 83-0. And in Week 8, Beechcroft beat Centennial 96-0 and Waynesfield-Goshen beat Marion Catholic 74-6.
The outburst by Beechcroft (7-1) came one week after a 13-6 loss to Brookhaven. The Cougars are still averaging 51.4 points per game.
And pity poor Marion Catholic, the smallest football school in Ohio with just 43 boys. It is allowing 51.6 points a game.
It’s not just in the heart of Ohio, either. Sherwood Fairview beat Haviland Wayne Trace 73-21 last weekend. James Elchinger threw for six TDs and scored on four TD runs.
Elchinger had four passes for scores in the first quarter as the Apaches took a 35-0 lead. Fairview had 318 yards of total offense in the first quarter while holding Wayne Trace to 63. At halftime, Fairview led 53-21 and had amassed 598 yards of total offense.
The Apaches ended the game with 740 yards of offense including 490 through the air. Wayne Trace was held to 148 yards total (104 in the first half).
