Meeting to cover levies in Milton Township
LAKE MILTON — Milton Township officials will have a community meeting at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the Lake Milton Fire Hall to discuss the two replacement police levies that will be on the ballot in November. The ballot will show replacement of a 2-mill levy, first passed in 1981, and 3-mill levy, first passed in 1994. For more information, contact township Trustee Dave Tomaino at (330) 654-2630.
Forum draws candidates
LORDSTOWN — A candidates forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Lordstown High School, 1824 Salt Springs Road. The senior class is organizing the event with assistance from the high school and the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County. Candidates running for office or their surrogates are scheduled to attend the event, which is open to the public.
Fire department tour
WARREN — The Warren Fire Department will have an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Central Fire Station, 111 South Street S.W., to show the public the fire station, the department’s fire trucks, auto extrication equipment and a fire-safety trailer.
Line project to be topic
LAKE MILTON — The public is encouraged to attend the regular Milton Township Board of Trustees meeting to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township fire station, 15980 Milton Ave., to receive updates about the Southeast Milton Township water and sewer line project. Joe Warino, Mahoning County sanitary engineer, is to be on hand to provide an anticipated timetable for completion of the project, as well as an update on funding.
Church relocation event at New Beginnings
YOUNGSTOWN — New Beginnings Outreach Ministry is having a two-day “New Church Celebration” on Thursday and Friday marking its move from Wick Avenue to 2007 S. Schenley Ave. Pastor Roderick L. Hennings, senior pastor and founder of Zion Dominion Global Ministries in Amherst, N.Y., will be the guest speaker at services at 7 p.m. both days at the new location. There will be a church dedication service at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday.
TV gardener to appear
YOUNGSTOWN — From 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Mill Creek MetroParks’ Fellows Riverside Gardens will host HGTV’s Erica Glasener in a presentation of “On the Road with a Gardener’s Diary.” Glasener, host of HGTV’s “A Gardener’s Diary,” is also a horticulturalist and author. She will share her on-the-road experiences, her enthusiasm about plants of all kinds and her curiosity about the impulse that drives people to garden. The event includes refreshments. Hospital receives $302K
BOARDMAN — The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley & Western Pennsylvania recently donated $302,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley to fund a respite center on the campus of the new inpatient hospital, scheduled to open here in December at 6505 Market St. The new medical campus will include a 32-bed inpatient unit for general pediatric medical care, emergency department and other amenities, including the Ronald McDonald Respite Center, which is scheduled to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2009. The $302,000 grant will be used to offset the cost of building and furnishing the respite center, which is a place where families can rest while their children are in the hospital.
